Nested with the foot of Luberon, Robion is a charming village which is not revealed with the first access.
It is necessary to leave the road of Cavaillon and to penetrate in the old village to appreciate all the charm of it.

History :
The favorable configuration of the place was worth to him to be inhabited as of the Paleolithic one. Many archeological sites were discovered on the commune.

During the Roman occupation and the great activity of via domitia, Robion is a crossroads graft the Romans and the Greek merchants going up from Marseilles.

Gone down in the plain during Pax Romana, the inhabitants hasten to join their rocks during the cruel invasions. Protected well by a double enclosure, the village will know a rather calm history except for confusion of the church by the Baron of the Adrets during the wars of religion.

What remains castle will be destroyed with the revolution. The walls of the enclosure will also disappear fault from maintenance.

At the 19th century, the village specializes in the decorated tomb stone face (not to miss some interesting specimens with the cemetery)
Robion is the native of the Father Xavier de Fourvière, friend of Mistral and known village for its reference works into of Provence (Grammar, guide of conversation and French dictionary of Provence). Its preachings in local language contributed to the revival of the regional faith.

Another character celebrates of Robion, Luc François Xavier Calvière. Astronomer and physicist, he was the manufacturer of an astronomical clock from of which the prototype with unfortunately disappeared.

On the buttress of the apse, one can see engraved the symbol of the golden section (in the shape of snail shell). The interior, from a great purity, profited from a recent restoration which made it possible to give to naked the stone.
A wonder.

Le clocher Saint Pierre :
Vestige of the old Romance vault Saint Pierre, one of his bells is gone back to 1489.

Au fil des ruelles :
Mullioned windows, pretty doors, porches.
The old stone quarry, in top of the village at summer transformed into open-air theatre. Any meadows, is the staircase of the giants: staircase directly cut in the rock which carries out until a source.

Aux alentours du village :

La source du Boulon :
Mini fountain of Vaucluse, this source leaves the rock to the foot of a calcareous circus. One reaches it by the open-air theatre and the small way which skirts cliffs.

Le cimetière de Robion :
Robionnais, specialized in the tomb stone face, had as a practice to carve elements symbolizing their activities. One thus finds tombs of hunters, vine grower, masons stone etc
