High place of the history of the area of Luberon, Buoux is leaned with the small valley of Loube, the intersection of three natural environments: the plate of Claparèdes, the valley of Aiguebrun and the combe of Lourmarin.
True heart of Luberon, it is the paradise of the archaeologists. Vestiges of all the times are found there.
Considered for its cliffs, Buoux is one of the most beautiful sites of climbing of the world.

A little History:
The human traces of occupation go back to -50.000 years with Buoux. One actually found there a tooth of man of Neanderthal.
At the time Gallic, the fort, true pilot of more than two thousand years of history, was probably a solar place of worship.
Under the Roman occupation, a villa was built with the site of the castle.


With 4th and 5th century, a religious community settled under the fort with Germain saint. At that time, of many hermits occupy the neighbouring caves.

The castle:

The fort of Buoux:
Located at 2km of the village, the fort of Buoux is an exceptional place of share its establishment on a magic rock.
This enthralling visit requires however a great vigilance because of the escarpment of the place. First rupestral site listed in Provence, it was occupied by the Ligurians and the Romans.
It undergoes the wars of religion and the Of Vaud ones occupied it until 1545.

Priory of Symphorien Saint:
Building builds between 11th and the 12th century, its bell-tower is a little Big Ben of Luberon. The whole of the buildings with suffered much from plunderings of the merchants at the 20th century.
Now, the buildings belong to a private individual who restored them patiently.
One can however see road well the pretty bell-tower of the Priory.
